Brock Rocks

Ways to Help

Donate blood and/or platelets.
Brock has had 26 blood transfusions and 40 platelet transfusions in less than 5 months.  Without them, he would have died.  There have been times that he needed blood or platelets and we had to wait for hours because the blood bank supply was low.  I’m ashamed to say that I’d never donated blood before Brock was diagnosed.  Partly because of ignorance about the real need and partly because I thought I was afraid of the needle.  But, really?  It doesn’t compare at all to some of the things that Brock has had to endure.
If you donate in Oklahoma and if you feel inclined to do so, you can ask to fill out a “credit to patient” form for Brock (or anyone else you know who needs blood).  Brock (or that person) will receive a discount on the processing fee that’s charged for each transfusion.

{update: in the last 1.5 years Brock has received over 100 blood or platelet transfusions.  please donate!}

– Brock’s medical bills (including medication) total over $1,000/month.  If you would like to help the family offset some of those costs please visit

  1. We heard about Brock from an email that was sent out through the Camp Fire Office. My husband regularly gives Platelets, some of which your son might actually have received already, since his are used often for children.

    He said in order for him to put Brock’s name down for a credit he needs to know the name of the hospital.

    If you could reply directly to my email that would work better than my trying to check out the blog.

  5. I just stubled upon your facebook & landed here. My daughter works for OBI & her & my son both donate platelets because they have high platelet counts. She does it when her iron is high enough, his is always high. They have never donated in anyones name before but once I tell them to look here they will probably donate in his name next time. Do we need a last name for the credit to patient form? You may have one on here I just didn’t go back & look for it. Feel free to email me if you don’t have it on here & don’t want it. Also, while at Childrens you might notice that they still have photos of my brother in law, Monty Payne. He spent a lot of time there 30+ years ago & has been in remission since that time. Never give up hope. Miracles do happen.

  6. Dear Vanessa and Family,
    I just came across your facebook and came across your link. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I used to donate blood a long time ago and just quit for some reason and have never thought about platelets. I will be returning to donating blood and now platelets. What information do I need for the credit to patient? Please feel free to email the information or even a link or something if you have already given this information out. GOD Bless you and your family
