Brock has a spinal tap tomorrow morning. Hopefully I’ll be back in a few hours with a longer update. Thank you for praying for him!

Starting over

Here’s what happens.

You start telling everyone you know about how AWESOME it is that Brock’s made it 7 months without being in the hospital and how that’s the longest time he’s EVER been home since he was diagnosed at 11 months old. You go to the grocery store and buy enough food for a week because life is slowing down and you’re FINALLY going to be able to make dinner instead of grabbing fast food on the way home. You go to bed thinking to yourself “I’m so glad we don’t have anywhere to go or anything to do tomorrow! I’m going to get so much done around the house!”

And then your son wakes up and is lethargic and disoriented and shaking and it scares the crap out of you and reminds of you of this time last year and so you rush off to the ER.

That was Thursday morning. His blood pressure was pretty low when he and Jay got to the ER and blood work showed that he was really dehydrated. They gave him some fluids in the ER and the oncologist wanted to keep him overnight to make sure he didn’t do anything tricky like he did last April (you know – when he stopped breathing and his heart stopped).

It was the first time we’d had to be in the hospital since Reese was born and it was…hard, honestly. It was especially hard because after an hour Brock felt FINE and was ready to run all over the hem/onc floor and play basketball and ride the cars and cook in the play kitchen. Which would normally be no big deal except that he wasn’t used to being attached to an iv pole and he kept trying to run off. So chasing him and pushing his pole and trying to hold Reese at the same time…yeah, it was hard.

Up until last August Brock was a professional hospital patient. He knew all about blood draws and having vitals taken and how you have to WAIT ON YOUR MOMMA to push the iv pole before you run off.  But this time? It was like he’d forgotten all of that. Seven months is along time when you’re 3 years old and I really think he didn’t remember ever being in the hospital. (Isn’t that amazing??!!)

We got to come home the next day and he’s back to his normal self now.

And now we have to start our count all over again. Two days since we’ve been in the hospital. Praying we make it another seven months (or more).
