Brock Rocks

“It was a great day…it was a super way…to spe-end…some time together…”

If you know what the title is from, I’m sorry.  You’ve been sucked into subjected to The Fresh Beat Band as well.

Tonight we had one of the best evenings we’ve had since October 6th.  Jaycie has been asking us since before her birthday (over a month ago) if all four of us can go eat at The Peanut Place (texas roadhouse).  Since Brock hasn’t had any chemo in over a week, his counts are great and we felt like it was safe to take him with us.  About 23 seconds after we sat down Jaycie declared “I love this!”  (Though it’s hard to tell if she was referring to dinner as a family of four…or the cinnamon butter smeared roll she’d just popped into her mouth).  Either way, it was a great time.  And I loved it too.

Afterward, we stopped by Target for some milk and kleenexes.  Fifty dollars later (how does that always happen??) we were leaving the store, shopping basket and hearts equally full.

There is such a huge difference in how Brock acts and feels when he hasn’t had chemo in awhile.

This was him the day after his last dose of chemo.

And this was him 2 days ago.

Tonight, he was even better than that picture.  He was laughing, smiling, dancing, interacting with us.  It was so nice to see a glimpse of the “real” Brock, before he gets stolen away again on Wednesday.

Wednesday is a big day.  We’ll be deciding with the doctors about what treatment he should receive next.  There are careful studies done on the most effective way to kill leukemia…which drugs should be given and in which order, all depending on the type of leukemia the child has and their age at diagnosis.  Because of the fungal infection, Brock can’t go forward with the type of treatment that he’s “supposed” to have – the type that has been scientifically proven to be most successfull at treating the leukemia that Brock has.  It’s a little bit nerve wracking to feel like you’re “winging it” as far as treatment goes.  We’re praying for guidance for the doctors as they decide what to do next and that whatever they do decide will be just as effective as what he was “supposed” to have gotten.

By the way, if he’d never gotten the fungal infection, he would be about half way done with treatment.  As it is, he has several more years worth of chemo to receive.

I’m not sure how I ended up on that tangent.  The whole reason I wanted to post tonight was to share with you all what a FANTASTIC evening we had.

And to wrap things up, a few more pictures from the past week…

Brock was not too impressed with the snow.

  2. Hey guys,
What a great update…loved it. I am so glad you all got to get out of the bubble and enjoy some quality time together as a family at The Peanut Place! Isn’t it amazing how special it seems to go out to eat or go to Target when those things are missing from you life for a while? We will be praying for the Dr’s wisdom in deciding Brock’s treatment plan. You guys are amazing!

  5. Wow, so glad you got to have a “real” family day with the 4 of you feeling good! That is so awesome and makes me really stop and think about how we all (the rest of us) take going out to eat as a family, or making a trip to Target, for granted. It was just really great to read about your evening. We are praying that the doctors will make wise decisions regarding Brocks further treatment.

  10. Thank you for all the new pictures. It’s so great to see him and hear about your wonderful day. I
am so glad you got to go to the peanut restaurant, and I too can relate to the money spent at Target. I never go in to a store and leave with what I came in to buy, always something more! I will be praying for wisdom for the Drs. and that Brock will have a easier time tolerating his chemo treatments. Blessings and hugs to you all!

  12. I’m so glad that you had a great evening out as a family. I will continue to pray for Brock and his team of doctors for Godly wisdom in which course of treatment to take. May God bless you in the days ahead and continue as the Great Physician who knows exactly what Brock needs.

  13. I LOVE that you guys got to go, as a family, to “the peanut place”. That’s awesome! Any hint of ‘normalcy’ has got to be such a blessing in your lives. Continued prayers for the doctors and the strategy to treat Brock’s cancer and fungal infections. And, continued prayers that you guys get blessed with more of ‘the old Brock’. I’ll tell you one thing, that son of yours is a fighter. Let’s continue to build up his armor with prayer!

  15. What beautiful children you have! And what a great dinner that must have been. Rejoice!

    Comment by Lee — March 23, 2010 @ 7:22 am

  16. How totally cool to be having fun at the Peanut Place. Well if you all are “winging it”, it could not be in better company than with a bunch of believers who share your faith and marvel at the miracles God provides. I’ve got to believe that through all this the doctors have found many new protocols and if any of them were weak in their faith, they’ve had an opportunity to see how God works. In the meantime, I am so happy for the whole family. God will show you the way. Love you all.

I will be praying for Wed. and Brock’s treatment plan as well as for your family.
    God Bless,
