Brock Rocks

Boy, am I glad it’s Friday!  We’ve been to the clinic every day this week with the exception of Tuesday.

Brock needed blood yesterday.  This morning he had a spinal tap to get chemo into his spinal fluid and he also got chemo through his port.  Jay was the one that stayed with him during the spinal tap, but from what I understand, the sedation went a little better than it has on previous occassions.  They gave him a little benadryl this time before they gave him the sedation meds so maybe that helped.  Also, this spinal tap took place in a different room than the others have so I think maybe Brock wasn’t quite as anxious because he didn’t know what was coming.  He had a little bit of a hard time coming out of the sedation.  He was breathing really quickly and his sats were a little low.  He also spiked a fever while we were there (he’s been having low-grade fevers at home all week) so they sent us for a chest x-ray.  It showed he has a little bit of pneumonia on his left lung so we’re adding an antibiotic to his daily aresnal.  He’s still battling diarrhea so please pray that the antibiotic doesn’t make it worse (it’s a common side effect).

Our doctor is going to write a letter to our insurance company to try to get them to cover more home health visits per year (if they did then we’d only have to go to clinic every 10 days instead of twice a week) and to try to get them to cover Brock’s prescriptions.  Please pray that they’ll respond kindly!

Hmmm…I feel like this update is a little scattered so let me wrap it up with praises and prayer requests.

Praises:
– The outpouring of love and support you’ve shown our family during this difficult time.
– Brock never got that stomach bug that was going around our extended family.
– The wonderful doctors and nurses we have taking care of us.

Prayer Requests:
– The pneumonia to clear up, his breathing and lungs to improve, and no adverse side effects from the antibiotic.
– That Brock’s counts won’t get TOO low after the chemo he got today.
– That things with the insurance company get worked out.
– That he will be able to tolerate changing his feeds and that he’ll start to gain weight.
– That he’ll start to catch up physically and developmentally.

Thank you for continuing to pray with us.  We love you all so very much.

  2. Please Father, I echo V’s prayer requests. I know that You are an awesome God and I pray that You will give them some relief, comfort, and a lot more hope for a full recovery for this child. I know that You are the Great Physician. Please give his doctors wisdom to find the proper solutions that will help this baby. Please lead the insurance company to authorize the extra requests by the doctor. Please restore Brock to a picture of complete health and happiness. Please restore this family completely. They have been through so much lately. You said that we would be challenged and You said that we would not be given more than we could carry, but I weep when I see how much this family has gone through. I know You have not forgotten this family. Please perform another miracle and heal this child completely.
